What is my Office 365 and email access as a MSU Denver user?

This external facing article details the different levels of Office 365 license and Email policies assigned to different MSU Denver users.

Overview

When you are accepted as a student or hired as an employee at MSU Denver, you gain access to your own MSU Denver email account. Based off your status, MSU Denver will assign you different Office 365 email licenses with different levels of access, and apply different email policies to your provided email account.

Student Office 365 and Email Access

MSU Denver students have four different potential statuses as far as email/Office 365 access are concerned. Each are defined below, as well as what type of Office 365 and email acccess they have.

• A Preregistered Student is someone who has newly been accepted to MSU Denver but has not yet registered for any classes. They are assigned the following:
  • Microsoft 365 A5 Student license with access ONLY to Email and Microsoft Teams (other services are not enabled)
  • Can only send emails to addresses that end in .gov or .edu
  • Max limit of 100 emails sent each day
• An Unregistered Student is someone who has attended MSU Denver previously, but is not registered in the current semester. They are assigned the following:
  • Microsoft 365 A5 Student license with access to all services included within the license
  • Can send emails to any address
  • Max limit of 100 emails sent each day
• A Registered Student is someone is who registered for a class in the current semester. They are assigned the following:
  • Microsoft 365 A5 Student license with access to all services included within the license
  • Can send emails to any address
  • Max limit of 100 emails sent each day
• A Meritus Student is someone who is age 60 or above attending non-credit courses at MSU Denver. They are assigned the following:
  • Microsoft 365 A5 Student license with access to all services included within the license
  • Can send emails to any address
  • Max limit of 100 emails sent each day

Employee Office 365 and Email Access

The main roles for MSU Denver employees consist of Staff, Faculty and Contingent Worker. These roles are granted the following access regarding Office 365 licenses and email polices:

• Staff member:
  • Microsoft 365 A5 for Faculty license
  • Can send to any email address
  • No limit on the amount of emails sent in a day
• Faculty member:
  • Microsoft 365 A5 for Faculty license
  • Can send to any email address
  • No limit on the amount of emails sent in a day
• Contingent Worker:
  • Microsoft 365 A5 for Student license
  • Can send to any email address
  • No limit on the amount of emails sent in a day

Emeritus Office 365 and Email Access

If you are classified as Emeritus at MSU Denver you will have access to the following:

• Microsoft A5 Student license with access to EMAIL ONLY
• Can send to any email address
• No limit on the amount of emails sent in a day
