Unity is a cross-platform game engine developed by Unity Technologies.The engine can be used to create three-dimensional (3D) and two-dimensional (2D) games, as well as interactive simulations and other experiences. The engine has been adopted by industries outside video gaming, such as film, automotive, architecture, engineering, construction, and the United States Armed Forces.

This software package uses the Unity Educational Grant License (EGL) and includes the Unity Editor and Unity Hub. The Unity Education Grant License gives institutions multi-seat access to Unity's real-time 3D development tool, compatible with institutional computers and servers. The license empowers students to start creating immersive experiences for any industry.

How do I access Unity?

Once you have installed Unity from one of the methods above, you can launch the application from your Start menu (Windows) or Launchpad (Mac), the application will connect to your license server and you will be able to use it.

If you require assistance using the application, please contact your instructor, department tutor, or supervisor for help.

If you experience trouble installing the application, you receive license errors, or you feel it is not running correctly, please submit a Software Issues & Errors request.

How do I set up the Unity Hub?

Signing in

  1. Begin by changing your default web browser.
  2. Click the Start menu and go to Settings.
  3. Click Apps and then Default apps.
  4. Change the default web browser to Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
  5. Open the Unity Hub.
  6. You will be prompted to sign in or create an account.
  7. Click the links to complete the sign in process. Your web browser will open and launch the sign in page.

Locating the Unity Editor

  1. You will be prompted to install the Unity Editor. This is not necessary as it should already be installed.
  2. Choose the Locate existing installation option.
  3. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Unity 2022.2.2f1\Editor\ find and select the Unity program and click Select Editor.

How do I add Vuforia to my Unity project?

In computer labs where the instructor has requested the Vuforia package, ITS has copied the package to the public desktop folder in a sub folder called "UnityPackages". After you create your first project, you can double-click the Vuforia package and it will be added to your project.
