Body
Python is an interpreted, interactive, object-oriented programming language. It incorporates modules, exceptions, dynamic typing, very high level dynamic data types, and classes. It supports multiple programming paradigms beyond object-oriented programming, such as procedural and functional programming. Python combines remarkable power with very clear syntax. It has interfaces to many system calls and libraries, as well as to various window systems, and is extensible in C or C++. It is also usable as an extension language for applications that need a programmable interface. Finally, Python is portable: it runs on many Unix variants including Linux and macOS, and on Windows.

Installing the runtime
In order to use Python in a computer lab, you must first launch it from the terminal. This will trigger the Python Install Manager to install the latest Python runtime into your user profile.
- Open Terminal from the start menu.
- Type py into the terminal and press Enter.
- Wait for the Python Install Manager to install the Python runtime.
- Python will launch. On subsequent logins, Python can be launched using the same py command without needing to install.
Installing packages
Run py -m pip install [package name]
For example: py -m pip install requests
Note
Lab computers are wiped and reprovisioned every year and sometimes every semester. During the semester, as long as you sit at the same computer each class, you will have access to a persistent user profile and any Python packages you install will be saved across sessions.
