Where are recordings of Teams meetings stored?

Information effective 6 p.m. on May 21, 2021

Microsoft Teams stores recorded meetings in different locations, depending on how the meeting was started and who started the recording. Please see the chart below for specific information.

Meeting type Who started the recording (clicked on "Start Recording")? Where is the meeting recording stored? Who has access to the meeting recording?
Group/conference call, when you start a meeting/call without scheduling. Any member of the call. The OneDrive account of the user who clicked "Start Recording".

The member who clicked on Record has full rights.

Other members from the same tenant have Read rights.

External users to the group call will not have access to the recording.
Scheduled meeting (with only internal MSU Denver users). Organizer. Organizer's OneDrive.

The organizer has full rights to the recording.

All other members of the meeting have read access.
Scheduled meeting (with only internal MSU Denver users). Any Attendee other than the organizer. The member who clicked Record.

The member who clicked on Record has full rights to the recording.

The organizer has edit and sharing rights.

All other members have read access.
Scheduled meeting with external users. Organizer. Organizer's OneDrive.

The organizer has full rights to the recording.

All other members of the meeting from the same tenant as the organizer have read access.

All other external members have no access, and the Organizer must share it with them.
Scheduled meeting with external users. Any Attendee (other than the organizer). The member who clicked on Record.

The member who clicked on Record has full rights to the recording.

The organizer has edit and sharing rights.

All other members of the meeting from the same tenant as the organizer have read access.

All other external members have no access, and the Organizer must share it with them.
Channel meeting (started within an existing Microsoft Team Channel). Channel Member. Teams SharePoint location for that channel. Additionally, the recording can be accessed within the channel from the meeting chat or in the channel's files --> Recordings folder.

The member who clicked on Record has edit rights to the recording.

Every other member's permissions are based on the channel's SharePoint permissions.
