HLC 212 How-To Guide

Welcome to HLC 212, a room that is HyFlex capable with front and side PTZ (Pan, Tilt, Zoom) cameras, two audience TVs, one confidence TV off to the side, and a ceiling array microphone. This guide will help you set up HyFlex classes as well as how to use the room in general.

Touch Panel Interface

  • Turn the audience TVs on by pressing the power buttons labelled LEFT and RIGHT. You will see the front two TVs turn on.
  • Turn the confidence TV on by pressing the power button under the Confidence TV section. (Please note***: when you press the power button here, the TV’s backlight turns off, not the TV itself. If the TV is turned off by a power outage, make sure to turn the TV on with the remote. Once done, you can turn the screen off and on with the touch panel as usual.)
  • Selecting PC will display the In Room PC to the selected displays. Selecting LAPTOP will display a laptop plugged into the HDMI cable on the desk.
  • The + and buttons increase and decrease the in room volume and the bar shows how high or low the volume is.
  • The buttons on the bottom, from left to right are for Source Selection, Front Camera (facing audience) and Side Camera (facing instructor). When these buttons are pressed it will navigate you to the selected page. In the image above we have Source Selection selected. Next, we will look at the camera interface.

Camera Interface

  • As mentioned before, select the FRONT or SIDE button at the bottom to reach that camera’s interface.
  • The power button in the upper left is the power button for the camera. The camera must be turned on to use. If the button is lit it’s on. (Please Note*** - Camera takes roughly 15 seconds to power up so if it doesn’t come on right away this is why.)
  • The magnifying glasses with the + and is Zoom In and Zoom Out respectively.
  • The directional buttons allow you to move the camera wherever you need. The HOME button brings the camera to the center.
  • Pressing the PRESET buttons moves the camera to a predetermined position. If these need to be changed, please let us know!
  • Both FRONT and SIDE camera interfaces are the same so you can use this example for the SIDE camera as well.

Now that we understand how the room operates, let’s go over how to setup the computer for first time use.

Display Settings

  • First, we need to make sure the displays are set correct. You can check this by going to your desktop image, right clicking so the drop done menu appears and selecting Display Settings.
  • If the settings are correct, you will see a “1/2” in the first box and a “3” in the second.
  • If you see 3 separate boxes, click on the box that says “1” and scroll down to multiple displays. In the drop down menu there select “Duplicate 1 and 2”. That’s it!

Audio Settings

  • Right click on the speaker icon in the lower right corner and select “Sounds”. Once done, a new window will open where the first two tabs will be “Playback” and “Recording”. Below will show you which devices need to be set as your “Default Device” (these devices will be in the red boxes below). To set it as your “Default Device”, right click on the device name and select “Set as Default Device”.

Teams Settings

  • When using Teams for your HyFlex classes please use the following settings so remote students can hear you as well as the other students in class!
  • In Teams, click the three dots to the left your profile image in the upper right hand corner. Once you do, your drop down menu will look like this:

  • Select “Settings” from this menu and you will be greeted with a new window that looks like this:

  • Next you will select “Devices” from this menu. This will bring you to where you set your speakers, microphone, and camera. Please make sure your Speaker and Microphone are selected as shown below.

  • Scroll down further and you will see the camera section which looks like this:

  • Notice how there are two “USB Capture SDI 4K+” options? That’s because this room has two cameras. Make sure the two cameras are turned on as mentioned before and when you select one of these two options it will give you a preview of that camera. That way you know which camera you will be using for your class. You can switch between cameras here as well.
  • Once this is done close out the settings, use the touch panel to move the camera into your desired position (either with the directional pad or the presets) and you are good to go! No other set up with the microphone is needed, we already set the microphone to pick up everyone in the room!
