Bluetooth Troubleshooting

Overview

This article provides general troubleshooting steps for resolving common Bluetooth issues. If you're experiencing problems with Bluetooth connectivity or performance on your devices, we will provide some steps to follow below that can help diagnose and fix the issue.

Before you begin...

Ensure Bluetooth is Enabled

- Windows: Go to “Settings” > “Devices” > “Bluetooth & other devices”. Make sure the Bluetooth switch is turned on.

- Mac: Open “System Preferences” > “Bluetooth” and ensure Bluetooth is turned on.

Instructions

You will have the following steps to fix this issue:

 1. Restart Your Devices

  - Computer: Restart your device to refresh the system and clear any temporary issues that could be affecting your connectivity.

  - Bluetooth Device: Turn off the Bluetooth device, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on.

 

 2. Check Bluetooth Range and Interference

  - Ensure your Bluetooth device is within the effective range of your computer or phone.

  - Remove any potential sources of interference, such as other wireless devices or physical obstructions.

 

 3. Remove and Re-pair Devices

  - Windows: Go to “Settings” > “Devices” > “Bluetooth & other devices”. Select the device you’re struggling with and click ‘Remove device’. Then, re-pair the device.

  - Mac: Open “System Preferences” > “Bluetooth”. Select the device and click the X to remove it. Then, re-pair the device.

 

  4. Update Bluetooth Drivers and Firmware

  - Windows: Open “Device Manager”, expand the “Bluetooth” section, right-click your Bluetooth adapter, and select *Update driver*. Follow the prompts to install any available updates.

  - Mac: Ensure macOS is up-to-date by going to “System Preferences” > “Software Update”.

  - Bluetooth Device: Check the manufacturer’s website for any firmware updates.

 

 5. Check for System Updates

  - Windows: Go to “Settings” > “Update & Security” > “Windows Update”. Click “Check for updates” and install any available updates.

  - Mac: Open “System Preferences” > “Software Update”. Install any available updates.

 

 6. Reset Network Settings

  - Windows: Go to “Settings” > “Network & Internet” > “Status”. Click “Network reset” and follow the instructions.

  - “Mac”: Open “System Preferences” > “Network”. Select “Bluetooth PAN* on the left and click the minus (-) button to remove it. Then, click the plus (+) button to add it back.
