Overview
If you forget your NetID/email password or need to change it, you can reset your password using the following steps.
Before you begin...
- Your initial account recovery email and phone number are automatically set up using information you provided during registration/application. If this is your first time logging in, we recommend following the instructions on My First Login.
- If you no longer have access to your account recovery options, please contact the ITS Service Desk for login support.
- Only active students or employees can use their NetID account to log in to MSU Denver technology systems. See NetID General Information for more details about when NetID accounts are deactivated.
Instructions
- Navigate to email.msudenver.edu.
- Enter your MSU Denver email address in the email address field.
- On the password screen, use the Forgot my password link when logging in to your email (seen below).
- On the next screen, enter your MSU Denver email address in the User ID text box.
- Enter either the displayed characters or the words from the audio recording in the verification text box.
- Select a method to recover your account password: Alternate/personal email, text message or phone call (each selection is shown below).
- Note: Your initial account recovery email and phone number are automatically set up using information you provided during registration/application. Once you can log in to your account, you can change these options, if desired. For instructions, please see How do I change my Office 365 account recovery options?
- Click the action button (Email, Text or Call).

Phone call:
- Enter the verification code that you receive on the method chosen in step 3.
- Click Next.
- Enter your new password and Confirm it. See our password security requirements to create a secure password.
- Click Finish.
Result
You will have a new password set for your MSU Denver NetID & email account and be able to log in to systems again with your new password.
