Canvas Quick Start Guide for Faculty and Staff

Overview

This is a Quick Start Guide to introduce instructors and staff to the Canvas system and the training resources that are available to them. 

Students should review the Canvas Quick Start Guide for Students instead of this guide. 

Before you begin...

You must be an active student, faculty member, or staff at MSU Denver in order to access Canvas. If you experience issues logging in you may not have an active MSU Denver account.

Faculty/Staff should contact their Department or Human Resources if they do not yet have an active MSU Denver account. https://www.msudenver.edu/hr/aboutus/

Students should contact the Office of the Registrar to check on registration status. https://www.msudenver.edu/registrar/ 

If you have an active account then contact ITS for any issues you have signing in to MSU Denver services. Login Support (Single Sign-On)

Instructions

Accessing Canvas

For best performance, Canvas should be used on the current or first previous major release of Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. Since Canvas is built using web standards, it runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, or any other device with a modern web browser.

Logging into Canvas

  • Navigate to the Faculty and Staff Hub on the MSU Denver webpage.
  • Under Web Services, Teaching and Learning, click Canvas.
  • You will be asked to log in. (Use your MSU Denver Office 365 email credentials.)

Navigating Canvas

Inside Canvas, you will have access to Sandbox courses that you can use for testing and course development along with the courses you are assigned to teach.

  • How to view all of your courses
  • Canvas Tutorials - Please note: these tutorials are not MSU Denver specific and some of the information may not apply to our exact instance of Canvas. For MSU Denver specific tutorials please see the CTLD Ready Self Help Tutorials linked above. 
  • Canvas Technical Support can be accessed while in the Canvas system through the Help option. You can also Call 1-877-433-5878 to get help directly from Instructure Canvas 24/7 support team.

Result

You should now be more familiar with some of the Canvas training and support resources that are available to you.
